Ministries

Our congregation (along with the greater Church) is in a time of great renewal. While we are always being made new in Christ, sometimes congregations need to be intentional about making positive changes for members and the community.  In order to do better ministry in our community and among our members we have formed a new system for ministries (long-term projects and groups) and task forces (short-term or one time ministry events).

Since March, we have been worshiping online!  Please see our “Worship” tab. We welcome everyone to worship with us!  Communion is open to all.

How else is God working in us today?

Worship

Worship at Centennial is about gathering around God's promises for the world.  Worship is a space to give thanks for all goodness, to retreat from evil, and to renew relationships with God and the world. Worship is not about us, worship is about what God does in, with, and for us. Worship here is liturgical--which does not mean worship is always traditional or always the same.  This means we follow an outline of prayers, scripture reading, preaching, statements of faith, communion, song and blessing before we are sent into the world to witness and share good news.  We are learning that different liturgies and songs help us understand our relationship with God and each other differently.  We want to welcome all who worship here to experience God's grace.  Communion is open to all.

This artist (and young church member) depicts the communion table and rail as the "Coming Together Gate," a name and theology which reflects the centrality of communion and welcome in our congregation.
Every 2-3 months our pastor, music director, pianist, and volunteer musician meet together to plan worship for the coming months.   If you're interested in contributing ideas, singing in worship, joining the worship band, reading, ushering, or setting up communion, please call the church office or sign up on the whiteboard in the narthex.

Church Council

Our church council is made up of the following positions: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, three At-Large-Representatives, and the pastor. Each member of the council brings their own specific gifts to the table.  Our President and VP, have skills to lead meetings and encourage ideas. Our Secretary and Treasurer both have organizational skills.  Our At-Large-Reps bring skills to focus on specific ministry areas like property and grounds, communications, or worship and music.

Each year, the gifts around the table change with new members.
What skills could you bring to the table?

The Cheerful Cherubs

Picture
The Cheerful Cherubs meet weekly on Tuesday mornings to write cards to people who are hospitalized, injured, sick, or grieving.  They also send copies of the weekly announcements and sermons to homebound members.
This ministry is a legacy of Paul and Lucille Streeb who initially funded, supplied, and performed the tasks.  It is carried out by a small group of volunteers who are committed to keeping our homebound, sick, and grieving members connected to church and worship.

Education & Classes

Why Should I Go to Class?
Learning has always been a core practice in Lutheran faith.  From Martin Luther's translation of the bible into languages common people could understand, to the writing of the Catechisms for home use, to the many schools and universities bearing the Lutheran name, education is essential to who we are.
We do our best at CLC to offer classes for people of all ages and abilities.

Sunday School

From September-May our youngest members join Ms. Jackie, Ms. Linda, Mr. Bill, and Miss Karen for Sunday School (K-12).  We learn bible stories together through crafts, songs, discussion, and play.

Confirmation

It takes a community...
In 2015 we joined with Lutheran Church of the Master, Atonement, Holy Shepherd, Christ the King Lutheran Churches to offer a community-wide confirmation class for 6-8 graders.  We meet on Wednesdays (September-May) at 6 pm for dinner with class beginning at 6:30 pm.  Families are encouraged to join their student for dinner, class, and a lot of good fun.

Women's Bible Study

Every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month (at 2 pm) the women of the church meet together for bible study and discussion.
This is open to women of all ages.
Bring a friend!

Adult Education

Throughout the year we hold adult classes on special topics such as: Stewardship, Catechism, Bible, and World Religions.

September 18- October 30, 2016: We will discuss Life Together by Dietrich Bonhoeffer on Sundays after worship. Reading is optional, not necessary.  Contact the Pastor for more info!

Vacation Bible School

June 6-9, 2016 was a great celebration at CLC as we held Vacation Bible School for the first time in years.  With 15 students and 10 volunteers we learned four classic bible stories (Noah's Ark, David & Goliath, Jonah & the Big Fish, Daniel & the Lion's Den).  You can see photos on our Facebook wall and on our real wall in the Fellowship Hall.
Keep watch for next years dates and theme!

Giving to God

Picture
Giving to God is a ministry led by a handful of congregation members.
The ministry originated with an idea to share positive stories of stewardship during worship.  It has evolved into a greater focus on giving all we have, all we are, to God's work in the world.

One of the joyous pieces of this ministry is the once-per-month Noisy Offering during which worshipers bring their change to be offered with lots of noise during a randomly chosen part of worship.  One member even shared "her bucket" to collect change. Our first month, we had 20 lbs of change!  Share your change to make a change!

Women's Bible Study

The Women's Bible Study meets every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at 2 p.m.

Join the women of the church for study and discussion.

Our studies have come from sources such as the Women of Faith series and covered topics like "Managing Your Moods", "Overcoming Fear," and "Living a Life of Balance".

We encourage women of all ages to join in conversation, prayer, and spiritual support!

Worker Drones

Did you know that church buildings require the same upkeep as homes?   They are a small army of busy bees help keep our church in shape!   There is weekly cleaning, spring cleaning, yard work, light-bulb changes, salting icy sidewalks, and much, much more that needs to be done to make Sunday (and everyday) safe at CLC.  Each week a small group of volunteers known as the "Worker Drones" meet to ensure our building is cared for.  Without them, we could not be the home to our members and community groups that we are.  Call the church office (303-798-1424) if you're interested in becoming part of this ministry.

Vision Ministry

Our Vision Ministry began with the need to evaluate our assets--what we have financially, in property, and in people.  This ministry has become vital to moving our congregation in renewal.  We are not exactly sure what the end result of renewal will be for the congregation but we know that it involves continued change so that we can best use our assets to proclaim God's Word of love in our home and community.

Visitation Ministry

At Centennial, we aim to be a home to all.  For those who are sick, injured, homebound or hospitalized, the Visitation Ministry brings our church home to them.  Visitation Ministry members make monthly visits to offer communion, conversation, and the love and support we all share. If you're in need, or if you would like to volunteer, please call the office.Though COVID-19 has restricted many of our activities, we still try to offer support as we can.
